  6. I am writing this message because I am curious about whether or not the
  7. Atari Compendium will be updated to include the standard we eventually
  8. decide on.  The author of the book is on this list, I believe, so I
  9. thought I would ask.

  11. I also have a few questions about the book:

  13. 1) Can I get the TOSDEFS.H file in electronic mail?  I am not willing to
  14.    pay $20 (price+conversion+shipping) for a 6K file.  Not since I paid
  15.    more than $70 for the book, especially.

  17. 2) Is there an errata sheet available for the new version of the Compendium?
  18.    The contents has an error (the first page of Appendix I is listed as H.1)
  19.    and the flopfmt() function has "multiple the spt value by 2" instead
  20.    of "multiply".  These are the errors I noticed immediately.

  22. 3) Does the author have an e-mail address where I can report errors or
  23.    vent my angst about the above-mentioned TOSDEFS.H file?

  25. 4) Why is the index so... empty?  It seems that the best way to find
  26.    something is to flip through every page of the chapter the information
  27.    you want is in.

  29. I do not want to give the wrong impression, though; the Compendium is an
  30. excellent book.  The information is clearly presented, the typeface is
  31. readable, the style guide is interesting (though contrary to most of what
  32. we are discussing) and -- best of all -- it is up to date.  I was using
  33. the Atari developer documentation before purchasing the Compendium.  Having
  34. all the latest information at my fingertips is nice; even if I do have to
  35. spend time looking for it...  :)  I would recommend the Compendium to
  36. everyone who does not have it, despite my...anger? frustration? annoyance?...
  37. about having to purchase a header file.  If the header file is available
  38. by electronic mail, though, then I would have no problems with the
  39. Compendium (or at least no major ones).
